Musicians for Palestine is an international, grassroots network of artists and music workers. It was formed in May 2021 during Israel’s attack on the besieged Gaza Strip.
We launched that same month with a widely-covered statement ultimately signed by 1,500 musicians, announcing their support of the cultural boycott of apartheid Israel.
Before Israel’s ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, M4P supported and led campaigns that called on artists to respect the Palestinian picket line, and produced podcasts featuring many of our signatories.
At the start of the genocide, we quickly mobilized more than 7,000 musicians, calling for ceasefire in Gaza and a just peace. We announced our collective refusal to allow our music to be used to artwash oppression.
Since then, we have been persistently building capacity behind the scenes to make our work sustainable and strategic, rather than sporadic and reactive. At the same time, all of us organizers have been deeply involved in many other urgent initiatives challenging complicity in genocide and apartheid within music.
This process has not been easy, but we strongly believe in its importance.
As a group that includes Palestinian artists, among others, we take this work of collective liberation seriously. The Palestinian people have been resisting Israel’s apartheid and ethnic cleansing for almost eight decades. Their long struggle for freedom, justice and equality deserves our sustainable and strategic support.
May 2026 will mark five years since the founding of Musicians for Palestine. Ahead of this, we will be announcing the results of our intensive planning and collaboration with musicians and music workers around the world.
We hope you’ll join us on this new chapter.
